Sandy Nichols

Sandy grew up surrounded by pets and trees on an acreage near Edmonton. Her dad supplied her with stacks of used computer paper from work. Making small picture books from the stacks and drawing (lots of drawing) became a favorite pastime.#Eventually, she made her way to Calgary to attend the Alberta College of Art and Design. After graduating, she did commissions for editorial and advertising clients for many years. Her editorial illustrations have appeared in a wide variety of publications across North America and the U.K. Her editorial style has a been described as “retro humorous.” Her illustration style, employing a thin, wandering black line and limited color palette, has been described as “simple yet sophisticated.”#Sandy now lives in Calgary with three teenagers, her husband and a rag doll cat named Ziggy. She no longer has stacks of used computer paper for drawing, but uses a sketchbook instead.
