Matt Hammill - Author/Illustrator

Matt Hammill was born in Mississauga, Ontario, in 1982 and grew up drawing video game bad guys and digging for dinosaur bones in his backyard. He went to high school as a visual arts major, and after a quickly aborted attempt at a degree in biology he settled on studying illustration and animation at Sheridan College.

It was at a Sheridan Illustration art show in Toronto that an editor and designer from Kids Can Press happened to pick up a copy of his photocopied “zine,” Sir Reginald's Logbook. Thinking it showed potential, they asked him to try turning it into a longer story, and this eventually became his first published children's book.

Matt currently works as an animator and illustrator, and in his spare time he watches Star Trek, sings karaoke and goes home to his parents' place to pet his old dogs.
